After losing both his father and his daughter to cancer, and determined that no family should suffer for want of treatment, P. K. Basheer began the Seethi Haji Centre for Charities in his father's name in 2008. Through this trust, the underprivileged receive wholly free cancer treatment and dialysis, delivered through the Seethi Haji Cancer Centre and the Seethi Haji Dialysis Centre. He has chaired the charity since 2008.
A registered charitable trust under Section 80G: every contribution is tax-exempt, and every treatment is free to the patient.
Free cancer care for those who could never otherwise afford it, from early screening and chemotherapy to palliative support. A radiation unit and pathology lab are planned next.

Basheer is sub-committee convenor of the rehabilitation project announced by the Indian Union Muslim League for the people of Mundakkai and Chooralmala, who lost everything in the landslide. Here the Muslim League is rehabilitating 105 families left homeless. He carried out this demanding task with great responsibility, and the project has won wide praise both within Kerala and beyond.

Founded on 1 November 1982 as a junior college, it has grown into a postgraduate institution offering advanced, job-oriented programmes across the humanities, commerce, and science & technology, opening opportunities to a once-backward region, without discrimination of caste, creed, sex or colour.
